Renata Boero was born in Genoa, spent her childhood in Turin and later moved to Switzerland, where she studied humanities. Once back in Genoa, she enrolled in the High School of Art, where she studied under Emilio Scanavino. In 1959, she exhibited a work at the Rome Quadriennale, an event in which she would take part also in 1986 and 1999. In the Sixties, she worked as a restorer with Caterina Marcenaro, an experience that spawned the idea that in order to dialogue with space, the canvas must be free from the support. She also began a fascinating documentation of natural substances, which would give rise to her “Cromogrammi” series. In 1974, she unveiled her Specchi series, and thanks to these works, one of which was exhibited for the first time in 1978 at the “International Cultureel Centrum” in Antwerp, she was invited to the Venice...

From the Eighties on, her artistic experimentation saw her engaged in various series: Blu di legno, Architetture, Enigmi, Crani, Acquerelli di San Diego, right up to the present one, entitled Germinazioni. Her solo exhibitions have included: Civic Museums in Monza (1988), House of Mantegna in Mantua (1992), University of San Diego, California (2005) Mestna Galerija in Nova Gorica, Umetnostna Galerija in Maribor (2007), National Museum of Culture and History of Balarus, Minsk (2008), Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, (2010) and Castello Aragonese, Ischia (2011). She has also taken part in numerous exhibitions: XVI Sao Paolo Biennial (1981), at the Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels (1983), Venice Biennale (1993), at fringe events of the Architecture Biennale in 2008 and the Art Biennale in 2009.
